Diversity, Equity, Inclusion,
Belonging, & Accessibility

DEIBA Statement

Mill Race Theatre Company (MRTC) considers diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility drivers of institutional excellence. We seek to champion dignity, acceptance, and visibility, while promoting cultural competency, humility, and sensitivity.

MRTC has a responsibility to reflect our community on stage and behind-the-scenes; therefore, we seek out diversity in participation, especially from historically underrepresented communities. We must protect diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility. We are committed to:

  • Supporting members with diverse backgrounds and lived experiences

  • Combating all forms of discrimination to protect the safety and well-being of our members

  • Examining our practices continuously to ensure we meet the standards we have set forth

It is our aim, therefore, that our supporters, partners, artists, stakeholders, and board members reflect and embrace these core values in thought and action.

Equality: Our Commitment to Our Community

As a theatrical organization that serves a vibrant and diverse community, MRTC has always endeavored to be a welcoming place of inclusivity and warmth. Even so, we realize that we may not have always succeeded in our ideals. In 2020, amidst the ongoing racial protests, our Board of Directors took a deeper look at our organization to consider what inclusivity truly means and determine how we could best create a space in which everyone feels welcome and free to participate. The letter linked below is the fruit of those discussions, but it is just the start. We are committed to continuing to discuss and prioritize DEIBA.
