Rock of Ages

Synopsis: Rock of Ages follows the story of Drew, a small-town boy with big dreams of becoming a rock star, and Sherrie, a small-town girl with similar aspirations. But when German developers arrive with plans to transform the fabled Sunset Strip into a capitalist strip mall, Drew, Sherrie, and the others must come together to save the strip and preserve the spirit of rock ‘n’ roll before it’s too late. Rock of Ages is a celebration of the spirit of the ’80s and the power of rock ‘n’ roll

    HOW TO PREPARE: Please prepare 32-bars of music and bring digital accompaniment, plan to dance and read from the script. Wear comfortable clothing and bring list of potential rehearsal conflicts from January 6th- March 2nd.

    CASTING AND REHEARSALS: Cast list will be released on the MRTC website and social media pages by Friday, December 20th, Rehearsals begin Monday, Jan. 6th, 2025. For a full character list breakdown, scroll to the bottom section and click on it to expand it.

    PERFORMANCE DATES: Friday, Feb. 28th, Saturday, March 1st and Sunday, March 2nd. Cast will be expected to be at all shows and all rehearsals during the week leading up to the show.

    Male Presenting Main Characters (6)

    Drew Boley: The male protagonist. A young, aspiring rock musician who works at the Bourbon Room. He's adorable. 

    Lonny Barnett: The narrator of the show. He is the Bourbon Room’s sound guy and an improvisationally comedic character who breaks the fourth wall. Life-long crush on Dennis but chooses women from his nightly audiences to hang out with at intermission.

    Dennis Dupree: The owner of the Bourbon Room, a once-great rock club. He is a fun-loving, slightly washed-up rocker who loves his club and the life-long memories.

    Stacee Jaxx: A famous, but egocentric rock star. He is the lead singer of the band Arsenal and represents the stereotypical "rock star" persona. He was in the right place at the right time and it shows. loves the Rockstar lifestyle and all the women that come with it. 

    Franz Klinemann: Hertz Klinemann’s son who is poised to follow in his father’s footsteps whether he wants to or not. A German businessman, and Regina’s son. He starts as an uptight character but later embraces the rock lifestyle and learns to live his own life. 

    Hertz Klinemann: Franz’s strict, authoritarian father, a German businessman who is working to shut down the Bourbon Room and rid the city of rock 'n' roll culture. His eye is on profits and could care less about anyone's dreams.

    Female Presenting Main Characters  (3)

    Sherrie Christian: The female protagonist. A small-town girl who comes to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a famous actress. 

    Regina: After getting fired from her job with the redevelopment team, she turns hippie-protester and organizes a grassroots group to save the Sunset Strip and The Bourbon Room.

    Justice Charlier: The owner of the nearby strip club–uh, “gentlemen's club”, Venus, and a former rock groupie. She serves as a mentor to Sherrie and is portrayed as tough but caring. She has certainly made her way the hard way and helps young ladies who are struggling in the same way she did all while turning a profit.

    Dancers who perform throughout; also play the roles of:

    Waitress #1 (Protester #1): A minor character who works at the Bourbon Room, assisting Drew, Sherrie, and other patrons.

    Character (or Vocal) Ensemble (8-10): heavy group singing; some dance

    Club Patrons: Various characters who appear at the Bourbon Room, including other rock fans, groupies, and regulars who interact with the main characters.
    Protesters: These characters are also part of the anti-rock movement in the musical, led by Regina and Hertz, trying to shut down the Bourbon Room and the music culture.
